Vivante and Intelligraphics Partner to Deliver Safety Critical Embedded Graphics

SUNNYVALE, Calif. and RICHARDSON, Texas, Aug. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Vivante Corporation and Intelligraphics today announced a collaborative relationship to meet the unique display requirements of military, avionics, medical, transportation and other safety-critical applications. The relationship is focused on enabling clients to utilize Vivante's best in class commercial GPU solutions in safety-critical designs.

Requirements for touch screen LCD and heads-up display panels with 3D cartographic and command and control presentation are driving the need for extremely low power GPUs which meet all sourcing constraints. The open standard OpenGL(R) SC Safety Critical Profile is defined to meet the unique needs of the safety-critical market for avionics, industrial, military, medical and transportation applications, including DO-178B and DO-254 certification. OpenGL SC simplifies safety-critical certification, guarantees repeatability, allows compliance with real-time requirements, and facilitates porting of legacy safety-critical applications.

Intelligraphics, a leader in supplying OpenGL graphics software drivers, and Vivante, a technology leader delivering silicon proven commercial DirectFB, OpenGL ES and OpenVG graphics GPU cores, have partnered to provide the world's first completely certifiable hardware and software driver solution. Until now only the graphics software has been in compliance with the FAA mandated RTCA/DO-178B certification process.

Major graphics chip suppliers are not focused on the safety-critical market place and have not been willing to divulge the information necessary to do full certification on both hardware and software.
